Russell clocked a lap of 1m 29.938s on the soft compound tyres, as the young Briton fought off the challenges of red flags and his rivals to sit 0.106s ahead of Charles Leclerc in P2, with Sergio Perez 0.212s behind in P3 – while Russell’s team mate Lewis Hamilton was P4, 0.029s behind Perez.
