AS IT HAPPENED: Watch Rosberg vs Coulthard in the Esports Challenge
Our F1 Esports Challenge series welcomed two heavy-hitters: 2016 World Champion and 13-time Grand Prix victor David Coulthard as the two Heineken ambassadors face-off in a series of sim race challenges. Watch it here and join in on social media with the #ChallengeHeinekenLegends tag.
This week, Rosberg and Coulthard competed on Codemasters' F1 2019 game for pride and nine points to top our Challenge leaderboard. Watch the full stream on the video player above.
This was the third event in our Challenge series after #ChallengeLando with none other than Lando Norris, and #ChallengeWilliams that featured Williams' George Russell and Nicholas Latifi.
Challenge format
Challenge 1 – 1v1 Battles – A mini single-elimination tournament consisting of 1v1 single lap, best of 3 races featuring David, Nico and two other Heineken ambassadors.
Coulthard faced ex-Real Madrid and Brazil legend Roberto Carlos at Interlagos, while Rosberg took on former Red Bull F1 driver Robert Doornbos, with the winners of each round progressing to a face off in the final at the Red Bull Ring.
Challenge 2 – Defending The Crown – Our second challenge saw our four drivers from Challenge 1 face off against each other to claim victory on the virtual Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi in a five lap race.
With the competitors starting on a reverse grid (from Challenge 1), Rosberg looked to secure a win on the track where he clinched his world championship title in 2016...
Challenge 3 – Influencer Grid – Our drivers took on a selection of influencers and content creators as 18 pre-approved drivers joined the grid to take on our legends in a 25% distance race.
David and Nico started 1-2 on the grid but had their work cut out against the rest of the field, and a fan poll launched at the top of the show determined what track and weather conditions would be used for the race.
