F1 REWIND: Watch Verstappen’s last-gasp 2019 Austrian GP triumph

Fresh from a dominant pole position the day before, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was looking well-placed to take a maiden F1 triumph at the 2019 Austrian Grand Prix. That was until Max Verstappen, egged on by a sea of orange-clad Dutch fans, barged his way past his old karting rival with three laps to go, to claim a momentous second straight win at his Red Bull team’s home race.

Verstappen’s victory was also the first for the team's new power unit suppliers Honda since 2006, crowning an emotional day for the Japanese company, whose Technical Director Toyoharu Tanabe couldn't hold back the tears of joy in the pit lane after the race.

The only emotion felt over at Mercedes, however, was frustration, as the team – hampered by cooling issues on Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas’ W10s – failed to win a Grand Prix for the first time that season, Bottas coming home third, as Hamilton could only manage fifth.

But the race will forever be remembered for Verstappen’s controversial, last-gasp move to secure victory, a manoeuvre that left the Dutchman and his fans delighted – and Leclerc looking decidedly cheesed off as he stood next to him on the podium.
