WATCH: Carlos Sainz brings premature end to Free Practice 1 in Las Vegas with on-track stoppage
Free Practice 1 for the Las Vegas Grand Prix was just nine minutes old when Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz was forced to pull up on track with an issue.
Sainz was on the fast run down to Turn 14 at the Las Vegas Strip Circuit – making its debut in F1 – when he was forced to pull up in his SF-23 and jump out.
With red flags flown, it was subsequently announced that FP1 would not be resumed.

The FIA later confirmed that a concrete frame around a manhole cover had failed, which caused the damage to Sainz’s Ferrari, as well as the Alpine of Esteban Ocon – who the team confirmed would take a new chassis due to the hit.
