Red Bull announce new agreement with Newey

Red Bull have put an end to speculation over designer Adrian Newey’s future by confirming they have extended their relationship with a new multi-year agreement.

However, Newey’s brief is set to expand beyond Formula One racing, meaning a reduced role for him in the day-to-day running of Red Bull Racing’s design department.

“As part of this new agreement, Adrian will work on new Red Bull Technology projects, as well as advising and mentoring Infiniti Red Bull Racing as it develops its Formula One cars over the next few seasons,” read a Red Bull statement. “The details of the new projects will be announced in due course.”

Newey, widely regarded as among the most talented designers in F1 history, joined Red Bull at the beginning of the 2006 season as chief technical officer, having previously enjoyed title success with the likes of Williams and McLaren.

Under Newey’s design guidance, Red Bull won their first drivers’ and constructors’ world championships in 2010 and the Austrian-owned team has retained the titles ever since, winning both championships again in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
