Racing Point to appeal verdict in brake duct case

Racing Point have notified the FIA that they wish to appeal the verdict regarding the legality of their F1 car, specifically the rear brake ducts.

The pink team - who were docked 15 championship points and handed a large fine - had signalled their intent to do so on Saturday morning at Silverstone, but were required to confirm that intent within 96 hours.

On Sunday, owner Lawrence Stroll released an extraordinary statement, boldly defending his team, saying he is “appalled” by the “poor sportsmanship of our competitors”.

So it is not surprising that the team have pushed through with the appeal, with the case now going forward to the FIA’s International Court of Appeal on a date to be determined.

It comes after Ferrari and Renault also opted to official appeal against the verdict, with Ferrari also specifying they are appealing against the reprimand handed to Racing Point at Silverstone.

However, McLaren and Williams have opted not to follow through with their appeal.
