‘OCON VAINQUER!’ – Listen to this French commentator going crazy over Ocon’s maiden win
French fans had to wait 24 years between Olivier Panis’ 1996 Monaco win and Pierre Gasly’s 2020 Monza victory to hear the Marseillaise on the F1 rostrum. But Esteban Ocon’s triumph at the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix made it two French wins in the space of 12 months – and sent one French commentator into raptures.
Ocon was the beneficiary of a hiccup in Mercedes’ strategy on race day in Budapest that allowed him to inherit the early lead of the Grand Prix from Lewis Hamilton, with Ocon holding his nerve brilliantly to score his maiden F1 triumph for Alpine.
His victory drew praise from no less than French President Emmanuel Macron, who congratulated Ocon and his Alpine team on Twitter. And as you can see in the video above, Canal+ commentator Julien Febreau was equally appreciative of the efforts of his fellow Frenchman...
