Kvyat gets 10-place grid penalty
Red Bull’s Daniil Kvyat will join team mate Daniel Ricciardo in dropping 10 places on the grid for Sunday’s Austrian race after taking his fifth Renault engine of the season, exceeding the four permitted by the regulations.
With engine changes looming for both men in the coming races, Red Bull have opted to take the drops here - a circuit where they are not expecting to be particularly competitive - rather than at forthcoming Grands Prix where they hope to be stronger.
McLaren duo Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button are also carrying grid penalties. Button is set to drop 25 places - the cumulative result of using a fifth Honda engine (10 places), a fifth turbocharger (5 places), a fifth MGU-K (5 places) and a fifth MGU-H (5 places) - with Alonso facing a similar penalty.
