Max Verstappen continued his dominant form this season to take pole position at a wet qualifying in Montreal. The Red Bull driver sealed a fifth pole of the year, ahead of the surprise package of the Haas of Nico Hulkenberg and Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso.
Verstappen set a time of a 1m 25.858s, to finish a sizeable 1.244s ahead of Hulkenberg – who set his fastest lap just before the red flags brought out by Oscar Piastri’s crash in Q3 – with Alonso a further two-tenths behind in third.
Lewis Hamilton and George Russell were fourth and fifth, respectively, for Mercedes, ahead of the Alpine of Esteban Ocon, who was followed by the McLaren of Lando Norris, in seventh.
Carlos Sainz was down in eighth for Ferrari – but is set to see the stewards regarding an impeding incident with Pierre Gasly in Q1 – with Piastri setting the ninth quickest time before his qualifying-ending crash into the barrier. Alex Albon rounds out the top-10 for Williams.
