HIGHLIGHTS: Watch as Leclerc takes pole in a thrilling Singapore qualifying session
Ferrari's Charles Leclerc roared to pole position in the Lion City, beating Red Bull's Sergio Perez and Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton in qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix – with the top three split by just 0.054s.
Conditions began in the wet after rain hit FP3, and drivers slid around the slick surface of Marina Bay, desperate to find any morsels of grip between the looming walls. Max Verstappen topped Q1 before Leclerc bounced back in Q2 ahead of Hamilton. It was in that second session that Lance Stroll first took the risk to pit for slicks with the track gradually drying.
The top-10 shootout saw drivers equip soft tyres for a captivating battle for pole in which Hamilton held top spot until losing out to Perez and finally Leclerc. As for Verstappen, he hit trouble in Q3 and ended up qualifying eighth…
