Hamilton’s title rival Max Verstappen led the way early doors – but despite a late final effort in the dying minutes of the session, Verstappen could only claim P2.
FP1: Hamilton leads Verstappen in first practice as F1 debuts in Saudi Arabia
The Dutch driver won’t be too disappointed, though, after finishing just 0.056s adrift of Hamilton, whom he heads in the drivers’ standings by eight points going into the weekend.
