FORMULA 2: Ghiotto surges to Feature Race win

Luca Ghiotto was back on form in Great Britain, surging to a dominant first F2 win since Bahrain, and a first ever Feature Race win in the Championship.
The UNI-Virtuosi man had built a rhythm through the weekend, going quickest in Free Practice and second fastest in Qualifying and he proved too strong for title rival Nicholas Latifi, who finished second. The pair denied pole-sitting rookie Guanyu Zhou a first win in the series, who settled for third and secured a double podium place for his team on home soil.
The two UNI-Virtuosi’s had gone wheel-to-wheel at the race start and their brawl wouldn’t be resolved until the end of Turn 2, when Ghiotto advanced marginally on top. Latifi followed past Zhou a few laps later, having already overtaken Sergio Sette Camara at Becketts for third.
The war for first intensified following their change of compound when Ghiotto returned inches in-front of Latifi and the pair bumped tyres. Both drivers managed to maintain control, but Ghiotto later locked up at Brooklands and allowed Latifi through. Undeterred, the Italian used the blistering pace of his machine to regain the positon at Stowe.
Arguably, the race was won by his overtake of Tatiana Calderon – who was yet to pit - which allowed the 24-year-old the opportunity to build a gap ahead of Latifi, who struggled to pass the BWT Arden driver. When Nikita Mazepin eventually pitted from first and handed Ghiotto back the lead, he held a near 5s advantage over Latifi and was comfortably able to close out the victory.
