F2: Dunne in superb form as he takes brilliant Spa pole

Alexander Dunne shone in Spa as he took Pole Position in F2 Qualifying.

SPA, BELGIUM - JULY 25: Pole position qualifier Alexander Dunne of Ireland and Rodin Motorsport

Alexander Dunne was at his dominant best at Spa on Friday, following up his table-topping performance in Free Practice to take a magnificent Pole Position in Qualifying.

The Rodin Motorsport driver was top after each lap he completed, and with a final time of a 1:57.151, he took pole by 0.419s to ART Grand Prix driver Ritomo Miyata in second.

This gives Dunne a second Aramco Pole Position Award of the season and puts him in prime position ahead of his title rivals, who are all lower down the order, going into the Feature Race.

Miyata sealed his best Qualifying result in Formula 2 in second, with Invicta Racing’s Roman Stanek in third.

Williams Driver Academy member Victor Martins made it two ART cars in the top four, while Campos Racing team mates and Red Bull juniors Arvid Lindblad and Josep María Martí finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

Invicta’s Leonardo Fornaroli had been just 0.003s behind Dunne in second after the first push lap, but wound up in seventh, ahead of PREMA Racing’s Gabriele Minì.

Amaury Cordeel put both Rodin cars in the top 10 by qualifying ninth. The third Red Bull junior in the field, Oliver Goethe, finished 10th for MP Motorsport, with his teammate and Championship leader Richard Verschoor in 11th.

This means Goethe will start on reverse grid pole in Saturday’s Sprint Race, which is set to get underway at 13:45 local time.
