HIGHLIGHTS: Watch as Verstappen dominates to take historic win in the 2022 Mexico City Grand Prix
Max Verstappen was ungraspable in Mexico City as he took a record 14th win of the season – while home hero Sergio Perez completed the podium behind Lewis Hamilton.
Verstappen qualified on pole position and retained his lead at the start of the race, while Perez jumped ahead of George Russell to take P3 and Hamilton moved up into second place. Both Mercedes drivers began on medium tyres, while the Red Bulls started on softs.
It seemed that Mercedes were aiming for a one-stop strategy, expecting Red Bull to stop twice, but it soon became clear that Red Bull would be able to complete the race with just one tyre change.
The reigning champion therefore cruised to his 14th win of the season – eclipsing a record set by Michael Schumacher and matched by Sebastian Vettel – while Hamilton settled for second and Perez took another home podium.
Daniel Ricciardo also starred, taking Driver of the Day honours despite a collision with Yuki Tsunoda and a resulting 10-second penalty, while there were two retirements from the race.
