Max Verstappen produced a sensational performance at the first ever race in Miami, to seal his third victory of the season and close in on Charles Leclerc’s lead at the top of the drivers’ championship.
Verstappen – starting the race in P3 – got off the line brilliantly, leapfrogging the Ferrari of Carlos Sainz at the start into Turn 1, before later overtaking Leclerc on Lap 9. Leclerc – who finished in P2 – attempted to overtake Verstappen later in the race after a Safety Car but to no avail. Sainz came home in P3, just ahead of a charging Sergio Perez in P4.
George Russell produced a brilliant recovery drive – after starting in P12 – to finish in P5, just ahead of team mate Lewis Hamilton in P6. It was also another good day of Alex Albon, who sealed a P10 finish after a few late incidents.

A collision between Lando Norris and Pierre Gasly brought out the only Safety Car of the day, with the former unable to continue, while the French driver retired a few laps later. Zhou Guanyu, Sebastian Vettel and Kevin Magnussen were the other drivers that failed to see the chequered flag.
